Hire a Lift

Articulated and telescopic booms

Boom lift hire

A boom lift is a work platform on a hydraulic arm, mounted on a self-propelled base that drives on site. Articulated booms have jointed sections that reach up and over obstacles; telescopic booms have a straight boom that extends for the longest outreach from one spot. Pick your working height and outreach, then book online. Hire one for a few days or a few months, with the price shown before you add it to the basket.

Boom lift is the machine type. Cherry picker is the everyday name, used most accurately for jointed, up-and-over booms, so articulated booms are often called cherry pickers and straight telescopic booms are usually just called boom lifts.

Questions

Articulated or telescopic: which boom lift do I need?
Choose an articulated boom when you need to reach up and over something, such as a canopy, a parapet or plant. Choose a telescopic boom when the base has to stay well back and you need the longest straight reach.
Is a boom lift a cherry picker?
Boom lift is the machine type; cherry picker is an everyday name, not a technical category. It most accurately describes jointed, up-and-over booms, so an articulated boom lift is often called a cherry picker, while a straight telescopic boom is usually just called a boom lift. Scissor and mast lifts only go straight up and are never cherry pickers.
How much does boom lift hire cost?
Each machine page leads with the price for a week's hire, inc and ex VAT, and lists hires from 2 days in a table of prices by hire length. Delivery and collection are priced by your postcode before you pay. The optional damage waiver is included by default, and you can remove it by uploading your own hired-in plant insurance (HiPI) certificate.
What IPAF category is a boom lift?
Self-propelled articulated and telescopic boom lifts are IPAF category 3b (mobile boom). Spider lifts and van, truck and trailer mounts work from outriggers and are category 1b. Each machine page shows its category.
Can I use a boom lift indoors?
Yes, if it is electric and fits. Electric booms run quietly with no exhaust fumes and most have non-marking tyres. Check the stowed width, height and machine weight on the machine page against your doors, route and floor loading.
