About Hire a Lift
Hire a Lift is a booking service for access machines: scissor lifts, cherry pickers and other boom lifts, spider lifts, mast lifts, van and truck mounts and telehandlers. You choose a machine by working height, see the price inc and ex VAT and book online. We then match your booking with a local supplier partner who owns the machine and delivers it to your site.
Who delivers your machine
Our supplier partners own, maintain and deliver the machines. When you check out we search their depots near your site postcode. Supplier partners shown at checkout include CW Plant, MKM, Nationwide Platforms, Sunbelt Rentals, Travis Perkins and Jewson.
Self-drive or operated
Most machines are self-drive: we deliver the machine and your own trained operator works it. Mobile elevating work platforms need an operator who holds the right IPAF PAL card for the machine.
Operated hire comes with a trained operator who drives the machine to site and works the controls. It is quoted for your job rather than booked online. Van and truck mounted platforms are always operated hire. Ask about operated hire.
Damage waiver and HiPI
Optional damage waiver included. Hold your own HiPI? Upload your certificate to remove it.
Every price on a machine page already includes the waiver. If you hold hired-in plant insurance (HiPI), upload your certificate at checkout. Once we accept it, the waiver comes off your price.

- Where does Hire a Lift deliver?
- To sites in the United Kingdom, from supplier partners' depots near your site postcode. Each machine page shows whether delivery and collection are included in the price or priced to your postcode, so you see the total before you pay.
- Can I book online?
- Yes, for self-drive machines that show a price: pick your dates, pay securely and get confirmation by email. Operated hire is quoted for your job rather than booked online, and machines marked price on request have an enquiry form instead.
- Who operates the machine?
- On self-drive hire your own operator works the machine. Anyone operating a mobile elevating work platform should be trained for that type of machine, and IPAF PAL cards are the standard UK proof. Each machine page shows its IPAF category. On operated hire a trained operator comes with the machine, and van and truck mounted platforms are always operated hire.
