Hire a Lift

360 slew telehandlers

Rotating telehandler hire

A rotating telehandler, often called a roto, has its telescopic boom on a turret that slews a full 360 degrees. Set up on its four stabilisers (outriggers), it lifts and places loads all around one position without moving: onto roofs, over scaffolds and across a site. All four sizes are priced on request: send the enquiry form on the machine page with your postcode and dates.

A rotating telehandler is a lift truck for materials, not a MEWP or a cherry picker, so IPAF cards do not cover it. It needs an operator trained on 360 slew machines, and every lift needs planning.

Rotating telehandlers by lift height

Each listing is a lift height class with the published figures of a common Manitou or Magni model. The make supplied can vary, so we confirm the exact machine and its load chart with your quote.

Questions

What is a rotating telehandler?
A telehandler whose boom sits on a turret that turns a full 360 degrees. A fixed telehandler has to drive to face each load. A rotating one sets up on its stabilisers and slews to lift and place loads all around itself, which makes it part telehandler and part crane.
Can a rotating telehandler work as a crane or a work platform?
Yes, with the right attachment. Makers such as Manitou describe their rotating telehandlers as three machines in one: on forks it handles pallets, with a winch, hook or jib it lifts suspended loads like a crane, and with a work platform it lifts people. Each attachment must be one the maker approves for that machine, and it has its own load chart. Tell us what you need in the enquiry form and we will confirm which attachments come with the machine.
Does it have to work on its stabilisers?
For its biggest lifts, yes. A rotating telehandler can drive and make some lifts on its tyres, but its highest and furthest lifts are made with the stabilisers down, so plan room for the stabiliser footprint as well as the route in.
What training does the operator need?
Telehandlers are not MEWPs, so IPAF cards do not cover them. Operators must be trained and competent on the type of machine, which HSE's code of practice L117 covers. A rotating telehandler needs 360 slew training: on the CPCS scheme that is category A77 (Telescopic Handler 360 Slew), separate from the A17 card for fixed telehandlers.
Does every lift need a lift plan?
Yes. Under LOLER, every lifting operation must be planned by a competent person, supervised and carried out safely, and the plan is checked against the machine's load chart. Crane-style lifts with a winch or hook also need a plan for slinging the load and keeping people clear of the slew area. Equipment used to lift people, such as a work platform, must be thoroughly examined at least every six months, unless a written examination scheme sets the interval.
How much does rotating telehandler hire cost?
Rotating telehandlers are priced on request for now: send the enquiry form on the machine page with your postcode and dates. Delivery and collection are priced by your postcode before you pay. The optional damage waiver is included by default, and you can remove it by uploading your own hired-in plant insurance (HiPI) certificate.
