Outdoor scissors
Rough terrain scissor lift hire
A rough terrain scissor lift is built for outdoor sites: higher ground clearance, lug or foam-filled tyres and, depending on the model, four-wheel drive, oscillating axles or outriggers that level the machine before it rises. Most are diesel or bi-energy; some are all-electric rough terrain models for quieter sites. Larger models also carry bigger decks and heavier loads. Hire one for a few days or a whole project, with the price or a quote on every machine.
Rough terrain scissors still only go straight up: they are scissor lifts, never cherry pickers. Each machine page lists its power, drive and whether it has outriggers.

Questions
- What makes a scissor lift rough terrain?
- Ground clearance, tyres and drive built for unmade ground. Depending on the model that means four-wheel drive, oscillating axles or levelling outriggers. It still needs ground that can carry its weight, and it must be level before the deck rises unless outriggers level it.
- How much does rough terrain scissor lift hire cost?
- Machines you can book online lead with the price for a week's hire, inc and ex VAT, and list hires from 2 days in a table of prices by hire length. Machines marked quote only are priced for your dates on request. Delivery and collection are priced by your postcode before you pay. The optional damage waiver is included by default, and you can remove it by uploading your own hired-in plant insurance (HiPI) certificate.
- What IPAF category is a rough terrain scissor lift?
- Anyone operating a self-propelled scissor lift, electric or rough terrain, should hold an IPAF PAL card for category 3a (mobile vertical). Each machine page shows its category.
- Diesel or electric rough terrain?
- Diesel suits long days away from a charger. Electric and bi-energy rough terrain models are quieter and can work where exhaust is not allowed. Each machine page shows its power type.
