Electric, hybrid or diesel lift?
Where the lift works decides how it should be powered. Electric and hybrid machines can work inside, diesel machines are built for outdoor sites, and manual lifts need no power at all. 49 of the lifts we list run on battery, mains or by hand, with no exhaust when working, and the guide shows how high each type goes.
The short answer
Pick the power by where the machine will work, then pick the size by height and reach.
Electric lifts run on batteries or mains power, so they are quiet with zero exhaust emissions, which makes them welcome indoors and on low-emission sites.
Hybrid power lets you run on battery inside and switch to the engine outdoors or to top up the charge.
Diesel power and a sturdy chassis suit outdoor sites, rough ground and long shifts away from a charger. For indoor work, choose an electric or hybrid machine.
Manual lifts have no engine or battery to manage: you push them into place and raise the platform by hand.
What we hire by power type
Counts and heights come from the machine pages on this site. Each row opens the machine list filtered to that power type. Machines whose power varies by build, and telehandlers, are not counted here.
| Power | Machine types | Models | Working height |
|---|---|---|---|
| Electric (battery or mains) | Scissor lifts, mast lifts, articulated boom lifts, telescopic boom lifts and spider lifts | 35 | 4.5m to 38m (14ft 9in to 124ft 8in) |
| Hybrid (electric and diesel) | Articulated boom lifts, telescopic boom lifts and spider lifts | 12 | 12.1m to 35m (39ft 8in to 114ft 10in) |
| Manual (push and wind) | Mast lifts | 2 | 3.5m to 4.2m (11ft 6in to 13ft 9in) |
| Diesel | Scissor lifts, articulated boom lifts, telescopic boom lifts and spider lifts | 34 | 8m to 58.56m (26ft 3in to 192ft 2in) |
Tallest electric, hybrid and manual lifts
The tallest electric, hybrid or manual machine of each type we list, tallest first. The tallest electric one is the 38m electric telescopic boom lift at 38m, and the tallest hybrid is the 35m hybrid spider lift at 35m.
Running on battery does not make a big machine fit a building. The taller machines in this table are wide and heavy, so indoor use depends on the access width, door height and floor loading. Ask us for the stowed width and weight of the machine supplied and check them against the building before you book.
| Machine | Type | Working height | Power |
|---|---|---|---|
| 38m electric telescopic boom lift | Telescopic boom lift | 38m (124ft 8in) | Electric |
| 35m hybrid spider lift | Spider lift | 35m (114ft 10in) | Hybrid (battery and diesel) |
| 28m hybrid articulated boom lift | Articulated boom lift | 28m (91ft 10in) | Hybrid (battery and diesel) |
| Dingli 1823DC RT 18m electric scissor lift | Scissor lift | 18m (59ft 1in) | Electric |
| 14.3m push-around personnel lift | Mast lift | 14.3m (46ft 11in) | Electric (mains AC) |
Indoors, check more than the power
Check the stowed width and height on the machine page against your narrowest door and lowest opening on the route in, and check the floor can take the machine weight.
Every machine page lists the stowed size and weight where the maker publishes them, with the power type and IPAF category.
Every lift that can work indoors
Electric, hybrid and manual machines in one list.
Wide decks for crews working overhead inside.
Push-around and mast lifts for work a little above head height.
Outdoors and on rough ground
Diesel power and a sturdy chassis suit outdoor sites, rough ground and long shifts away from a charger. For indoor work, choose an electric or hybrid machine.
Hybrid machines suit jobs that move between inside and out, such as a warehouse with a yard, because they can run on battery inside and the engine outside.
Rough terrain scissor lift hire
Scissor lifts built for outdoor sites.
For reaching up and over obstacles outside.
Height, reach, ground and access, one step at a time.
Questions
- Can I use an electric lift indoors?
- Yes. Electric lifts run on batteries or mains power, so they are quiet with zero exhaust emissions, which makes them welcome indoors and on low-emission sites. Check the stowed width and height on the machine page against your narrowest door and lowest opening on the route in, and check the floor can take the machine weight.
- Can I use a diesel cherry picker indoors?
- Diesel machines are built for outdoor work. Diesel power and a sturdy chassis suit outdoor sites, rough ground and long shifts away from a charger. For indoor work, choose an electric or hybrid machine.
- What is a hybrid boom lift?
- A boom lift with both a battery and a diesel engine. Hybrid power lets you run on battery inside and switch to the engine outdoors or to top up the charge.
- What is the tallest electric or hybrid lift you hire?
- The 38m electric telescopic boom lift, at 38m working height. Indoor use of a machine that size depends on the access width, door height and floor loading, so check them against the building before you book.
