Cherry picker and scissor lift sizes
Access platforms are sized by working height. Here is the range for every type we hire, in metres and feet, taken from the makers' data sheets for the machines on this site, with what the feet in a model name such as GS-1932 or Z-45/25 mean.
How lift sizes work
Platform height is how high the floor of the basket or deck goes. Working height adds roughly two metres for a person standing and reaching, so it is the figure to match to the job.
Makers' data sheets add 2m to the platform height to give the metric working height. Many models are named after their platform height in feet, rounded: the 19 in Genie GS-1932 and the 45 in Genie Z-45/25 are platform heights in feet.
The feet on this page are converted from the metric figures to the nearest inch, so they can differ by an inch or two from a US data sheet.
Cherry picker sizes
The cherry pickers we list run from 11m to 43.15m (36ft 1in to 141ft 7in) working height. Articulated booms are the everyday cherry picker. Spider lifts cross lawns and rough ground on tracks and trailer mounts tow to site, and both set up on outriggers.
| Type | Working height | Longest outreach | Models |
|---|---|---|---|
| Articulated boom lifts | 11m to 43.15m (36ft 1in to 141ft 7in) | 21.6m (70ft 10in) | 24 |
| Spider lifts | 12.75m to 35m (41ft 10in to 114ft 10in) | 6.05m (19ft 10in) | 11 |
| Trailer mounts | 12.2m to 21m (40ft to 68ft 11in) | 12m (39ft 4in) | 4 |

How high can a cherry picker go?
The tallest cherry picker we list is the 43.2m diesel articulated boom lift, with a working height of 43.15m (141ft 7in). Telescopic boom lifts, usually just called boom lifts, go higher: the JLG 1850SJ 58.56m diesel telescopic boom lift reaches 58.56m (192ft 2in).
Most jobs need far less. Measure to the highest point you need to work at and choose the smallest machine whose working height reaches it with a margin for tools and fixings.
