Electric and rough terrain
Scissor lift hire
A scissor lift raises a wide deck straight up, usually with room for two people and their tools. It is the quickest way to get a crew to ceiling height on a firm, level floor. Hire one by the day or the week, with the price on every machine before you book.
A scissor lift only moves vertically, so it has no outreach. If you need to reach over something, you need a boom lift instead, such as an articulated boom (a cherry picker).

Questions
- Is a scissor lift a cherry picker?
- No. Scissor lifts and mast lifts only go straight up, so they are never cherry pickers. A cherry picker is a boom-type lift with a jointed arm that reaches up and over obstacles. If you need outreach, look at cherry picker hire.
- How much does it cost to rent a scissor lift?
- Each machine page leads with the price for a week's hire, inc and ex VAT, and lists hires from 2 days in a table of prices by hire length. Delivery and collection are priced by your postcode before you pay. The optional damage waiver is included by default, and you can remove it by uploading your own hired-in plant insurance (HiPI) certificate.
- Electric or diesel scissor lift?
- Electric scissor lifts have no exhaust and suit indoor work on smooth floors. Diesel rough terrain scissor lifts are built for outdoor sites with uneven ground. Some electric models are rated for rough terrain too: check the power and ground details on each machine page.
- Do I need IPAF training to use a scissor lift?
- Anyone operating a self-propelled scissor lift should hold an IPAF PAL card for category 3a, which covers scissor lifts and mobile mast lifts. Push-around scissor lifts, which do not drive while raised, are category 1a, and IPAF also runs a PAV course for push-around machines.
- Will a scissor lift fit through my door?
- Check the stowed width and height on the machine page against your narrowest door and lowest opening on the route in, and check the floor can take the machine weight.
